So I've decided that I need to say SOMETHING about teenage boys+jeans. I think this has been the saddest part of watching kids go through puberty. Apparently parents don't want to tell their kids that their pants don't fit because they are afraid to hurt an already vulnerable kid. As I drive home after work each day it never fails that I see one of the following:
a) a group of boys skateboarding. Each of them with a nice size shirt or hoodie on, and at least on hand on their pants holding them up while they scoot along with their other leg.
(I think that's why Skateboarding is such a popular sport for teenage boys, because you don't need your hands, so you can use them to hold your pants up! Perhaps there is some physics in skateboarding that I don't understand that requires big jeans?? Please enlighten me if this is true!)
b) a group of boys with pants so tight I can't look for fear I am going to see something rather disturbing. Perhaps they want to wear spandex, (trust me I understand) but they are afraid of being made fun of so they just wear pants that are five times to small but made of denim so they don't get made fun of. This is apparently an acceptable fashion?
c) the group of boys who are wearing the exact opposite of weather sensible clothing. For example: Shorts and flip flops in the snow or sweatshirts jeans and beanies in the summer heat.
Okay so I never see a boy with pants that fit him. Is it so much to ask that a young man has pants that actually fit up over his behind and stay there, and you can't actually see ALL the details of what's under them? I just feel like there has been a lack of sensibility in the latest fashion choices. Maybe boys want to be the opposite of fashion so it doesn't look like they're trying? I don't know but somewhere out there I know there is a parent who is surly capable of getting through to their teenage son about this topic? Perhaps I will revolutionize this concept when I have kids. I know you're all laughing because I'm going to have young boys wearing huge/smallish pants. I hope HOPE that is not the case!!
Let me know what you think about this!
